The Merkurhuset project designed by the Swedish Olsson Lyckefors studio not only takes its name from one of the most iconic buildings in Sweden's second largest city, but also enters into dialogue with the protected historical pre-existing architecture. An 8,000 square metre building is born that fits harmoniously into the urban context, without losing its identity.
Once again this year, Ivrea - the industrial city of the 20th century and a UNESCO World Heritage Site - opens its doors for visitors to marvel at Olivetti’s architecture, with involvement from local citizens and a media partnership with Floornature. Mapu 5, only 200 metres from the sea, was created on a vacant lot and now pays tribute to the unique Middle Eastern and Mediterranean architecture of Tel Aviv’s White City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The All-Year-Round Cultural Campus is an initiative of the AA Nanotourism Visiting School, an experimental academic programme in architecture based at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. Since 2014 it has been working on projects all over the world with students and professionals who want to improve their knowledge, practice and competences in architecture. The 2021 project was conducted in Wörthersee, Austria.
5th Studio worked with Bloqs to create the UK’s first free makerspace as part of a 6-billion-pound revitalisation project in Enfield, London. The new facility provides makers with workshop space at accessible rates including use of cutting-edge equipment.
The Chinese architecture firm TEMP has created a small infrastructure in the Olympic Forest Park in Beijing. The project aims to improve the usability of the park originally created for the 2008 Olympic Games, providing a service area for runners to meet, store their things, buy drinks and shower.
Chinese studio LLLab designed WAAAM, a museum of art and architecture in Beigou, Beijing testifying to the great impact of rural revitalisation on the local community. The museum adopts a critical approach to local materials, casting new light on them and expressing their characteristics in accordance with a contemporary artistic sensibility.
